A break in the data series occurred in the year 2009. Please refer to the Modernization of Input-Output tables for a detailed explanation.

1993 – 2016 series corresponds to the results of the 2013 base year.

Private consumption associated to the transport sector includes the following products and services:

Motor vehicles and parts. Includes cars, trucks, vans, truck tractors and new trailers; recreational boats not included.

Motorcycles and other. Includes motorcycles, bicycles, tricycles and other transportation equipment.

Fuel and lubricants. Includes all type of gasoline for automobiles, trucks, motorcycles, aircraft and ship and boat; Factors affecting consumption are limited.

Transport Services. Includes the purchase of air transport services, rail, maritime, road, urban, suburban and interurban; rental cars and trucks; tolls or fees; repair, washed and greased and parking lots; does not include car insurance.

Within the total gross fixed capital formation, the data of the transport infrastructure are related to the industry branches 2373: Construction of roads, highways and a part of the 2379: Other civil engineering constructions. Transport equipment includes cars and trucks, motor vehicle bodies and trailers, automotive vehicle parts, aerospace equipment, railroad equipment, ship and boat and other transport equipment.

Exports and Imports (includes the goods for processing) includes the following products and services:

Aircraft, motors and parts. Includes aircraft, motors and its parts.

Motor vehicles, motors and parts. Includes cars, trucks, car bodies, trailers and motor vehicle parts.

International travel. Includes incomes and expenditures for international travel recorded in the balance of payments current account.

Another type of transport. Includes railway equipment, boats and other types of transport.

The Final demand related to transportation does not include data relating to government procurement.

Gross private domestic investment, total: Transportation structures include railroads and petroleum pipelines. Transportation equipment consists of trucks, buses, truck trailers, autos, aircraft, ships and boats and railroad equipment.

Exports/imports, total: Goods and services that are counted as part of exports/imports include civilian aircraft, engines and parts; automotive vehicles, engines and parts; passenger fares, (including the receipts/payments of U.S./foreign air and ocean/cruise carriers for the transportation of non-U.S. residents/U.S. residents between the U.S. and foreign countries or between two foreign points) and other transportation. The total for road motor vehicles and parts excludes boats, aircraft and non-commercial trailers. Other transportation includes the freight revenues of U.S./foreign-operated ocean, air and other carriers (such as rail, pipeline and Great Lakes shipping) for international transport of U.S. exports/imports and for the transportation of foreign freight between foreign points; port expenditure receipts represent payments for goods and services purchased in the U.S./foreign countries by foreign-operated/U.S. carriers; and receipts/payments of U.S./foreign owners from foreign operators for the charter of vessels and rental of freight cars and containers.

Government transportation-related purchases, total: Government purchases represent the sum of consumption expenditures and gross investment. Government purchases include federal, state and local purchases of transportation services of roads, water, air, railroad and transit. Government expenditures on transportation-related structures and equipment are also included. Defense related purchases include expenditures on transportation of materials (care and movement of goods by water, rail, truck and air), the rental of trucks and other transportation equipment and warehousing fees, and travel of persons (care and movement of Department of Defense military and civilian employees), including tickets for all modes of travel, per diem, taxi fares, automobile rental and mileage allowances for privately owned vehicles.

Government transportation-related purchases, total: Government purchases represent the sum of consumption expenditures and gross investment. Government purchases include federal, state and local purchases of transportation services of roads, water, air, railroad and transit. Government expenditures on transportation-related structures and equipment are also included.
